Stourbridge paintings

In 1979 Howard Priestley had finally found a positive direction during his final year at Stourbridge College of Art. A direction that would serve him well in later mural work undertaken in and around Calderdale’s Youth Centres. All of these paintings were ink on paper, all approximately 10′ by 6′. Most were observations of life in the town where he was studying. One painting “Guitar Hero” was an early example of Priestley’s experimentation with spray can art, at a time when America youth was becoming obsessed with this rising phenomena.
