In 1967, at the age of eleven I went to the Halifax Technical High School. In the first year I was in the top flight, First in Art, English and History. Two years later I was bottom in everything and dropped down from the A form to the C form. From drawing pleasant landscapes at eleven I was drawing Voodoo scenes and collecting horror comics as well as ‘interesting’ plastics models that weren’t aeroplanes from twelve! To be fair to school, I was collecting Creepy from being eight! I also started caricaturing other pupils and staff as well as studying American Black History. So school wasn’t all a waste of time.
